Fairfax, VA (Sports Network) - Sherrod Wright scored a game-high 23 points as he helped guide the George Mason Patriots to a 68-57 win over the James Madison Dukes in Colonial Athletic Association action at the Patriot Center.
Wright made good on 12-of-16 shots at the free-throw line, but just 1-of-5 behind the 3-point line for the Patriots (10-7, 3-2 CAA) as they won for the third time in the last four outings. Marko Gujanicic came off the bench to record a double-double consisting of 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action for the hosts.
The Dukes (9-9, 3-2) were paced by Rayshawn Goins with 13 points and Ron Curry 11 as the team had a two-game win streak snapped.
JMU shot only 9-of-24 from the floor in the first half, but five of those conversions took place beyond the arc, allowing the visitors to take a 33-28 advantage at the break. George Mason made a total of only nine field goals over the first 20 minutes of action as well.
In the second half the Dukes again knocked down a mere nine baskets, but this time the squad came up empty on eight tries from the perimeter, allowing the Patriots to battle back and claim the double-digit victory.
In a game that featured seven ties and eight lead changes, the hosts dominated on the glass, 48-29, clearing 21 rebounds at the offensive end of the floor.
