Moscow, ID (Sports Network) - Kyle Barone recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds as the Idaho Vandals held on to defeat the San Jose State Spartans, 66-63, in Western Athletic Conference play at the Cowan Spectrum.
Also scoring in double figures for the Vandals (9-12, 5-6 WAC), as they won for the second time in the last three outings, was Connor Hill with a game- high 19 points as he converted 4-of-8 shots behind the 3-point line.
The Spartans (9-13, 3-8) were paced by D.J. Brown with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, followed by Louis Garrett and Nick Grieves with 10 points apiece as they saw their losing streak extended to seven games. Before fouling out Chris Cunningham, who shot only 2-of-14 from the floor, logged a game-high 18 rebounds.
Idaho scored the first points of the night and never looked back, converting a stellar 7-of-13 beyond the arc in the first half in order to take a 40-27 lead at the break.
In the second half the Vandals made things interesting by shooting just 28.6 percent from the floor, but the team survived with a 12-of-14 showing at the free-throw line over the final 20 minutes.
The hosts outscored SJSU at the charity stripe by a 21-8 margin on the night. The Spartans shot a mere 8-of-24 at the free-throw line.
