NCAA Game Summary - Kansas State at George Washington
(Saturday, December 8)
Final Score: Kansas State 65, George Washington 62
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - A pair of free throws by Will Spradling with 13.9 seconds remaining gave Kansas State some breathing room as the Wildcats held on for the 65-62 win over the George Washington Colonials in non- conference play at the Smith Center.
Spradling finished with 10 points as he converted his only two free throws of the game in crunch time for the Wildcats (7-1) as they posted their second straight win. Angel Rodriguez scored a game-high 17 points for KSU, although he shot just 6-of-18 from the floor, while Rodney McGruder matched his accuracy from the field as he finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas Gipson cleared a game-high 12 boards for the Wildcats.
The Colonials (4-5) were paced by Dwayne Smith with 14 points, Lasan Kromah and Isaiah Armwood with 12 apiece and Patricio Garino 10 points as the team bowed for the second time in as many games. Armwood came close to a triple- double for the hosts as he logged 10 rebounds and a game-high seven blocked shots.
In addition to shooting just 3-of-11 from three-point range in the first half and getting just a single opportunity at the free-throw line, which they ended up missing, the Wildcats were lucky to be within two points at the break on the road, 29-27.
In the second half both teams shot just under 41 percent from the floor, but thanks to a 3-of-7 effort out on the perimeter and those key free throws by Spradling, Kansas State was able to hold on.
The hosts had a chance to at least tie the game with time winding down, but a three-point attempt by Smith missed the mark, leaving the visitors with the win.
In a game that featured seven ties and six lead changes, Kansas State picked up the victory despite shooting only 35.7 percent from the floor and 56.3 percent at the free-throw line.
