College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Seth Allen tallied 21 points and Jake Layman scored 20, as the Maryland Terrapins rolled to a 94-71 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams at the Comcast Center.

Layman, starting in place of an injured Nick Faust, also contributed eight rebounds and two blocks to help the Terrapins (13-1, 1-0 ACC) to their 13th consecutive victory since opening the season with a loss to defending national champion Kentucky. The winning streak is tied for the second-longest in school history. Alex Len chipped in with 16 points and nine boards, while Dez Wells added 12 points in the victory.

Erick Green poured in a game-high 28 points for the Hokies (9-5, 0-1), who have lost five of their last seven outings after starting the season 7-0. Robert Brown had 11 points, Joey van Zegeren scored 10, and Cadarian Raines finished with eight points and 13 rebounds.

Layman scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half, including seven points in the early going as Maryland jumped out to a 13-4 lead. The Terps went on to shoot a sizzling 55.6 percent from the floor in the first half, including a 7- of-14 effort from the perimeter, as they built a 53-37 halftime cushion.

The Hokies were unable to put together any kind of a rally in the second stanza, as they shot just 36.4 percent from the floor. Maryland knocked down 16 free throws over the final 20 minutes to keep Virginia Tech at arm's length.

The Terrapins shot 51.7 percent for the game and knocked down 10-of-23 3- pointers (.435) en route to their second-largest margin of victory in the all- time series with Virginia Tech.
