Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - UAB confirmed Friday night that it has fired men's basketball coach Mike Davis after six seasons.
The move came after "considerable evaluation," said athletic director Brian Mackin.
"One of the considerations in this decision is that we have seen a growing apathy among our fan base that has resulted in a decrease in attendance and ticket revenue," Mackin said.
UAB finished 15-16 this past season, including 9-7 in Conference USA and missed the postseason for just the second time in Davis' six years. The Blazers earned an NCAA Tournament appearance last season after three straight NIT berths.
Davis, who had one year remaining on his contract, posted a record of 122-73 and guided UAB to four straight 20-win seasons before this year's struggles.
