Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Keegan Bell scored 21 points and handed out nine assists to lead the Chattanooga Mocs as they defeated the Samford Bulldogs, 86-78, in a Southern Conference season finale at The McKenzie Arena.
Jahmal Burroughs added 19 points for Chattanooga (11-20, 5-13 SoCon) after he went a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor. Omar Wattad added 11 points and Ricky Taylor had 10 points as the Mocs snapped their four-game losing streak.
Raijon Kelly paced Samford (11-18, 8-10 SoCon) with 21 points after he shot 10-of-17 from the field. Tyler Hood netted 16 points while Will Cook recorded a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Drew Windler chipped in 13 points as the Bulldogs lost their second game in a row.
Samford took a 38-29 lead into halftime after it shot 48.4 percent from the field and knocked down 5-of-13 from beyond the arc in the opening period. The Mocs fell behind after they made just 3-of-15 from three-point range in the first half.
Hood added a pair of free throws on the first possession after halftime to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 11 points. Chattanooga rallied back by shooting 54.8 percent from the field and converting 17-of-26 attempts at the charity stripe in the second half. The Mocs went on a 10-2 run to tie up the score 51-51 with 13 minutes left to play. Chattanooga ran away with it from that point forward and led by as many as 15 points.
The Mocs knocked down 23-of-34 at the foul line, while Samford went 10-of-16 from the charity stripe.
