Youngstown, OH (Sports Network) - Kendrick Perry scored 23 points to lead the Youngstown State Penguins to a 71-53 victory over the Valparaiso Crusaders in a Horizon League contest at the Beeghly Center.
DuShawn Brooks finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists for YSU (14-11, 9-6 HL).
Richie Edwards led the way for Valpo (18-9, 11-4) with 19 points. Ryan Broekhoff recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Jay Harris contributed 11 points off the bench. The defeat snapped the Crusaders' four-game winning streak.
The Penguins held a 32-20 lead at halftime after they shot 42.4 percent from the floor and held a 20-15 advantage in the rebounding battle in the opening period. Valpo made only 27.3 percent of its field goals in the first half.
The Crusaders improved slightly after the break and shot 36 percent from the floor in the second half, but YSU made 14-of-18 from the charity stripe to extend its lead in the final 20 minutes.
The Penguins moved the ball well on the offensive end, as they dished out 18 assists and only committed nine turnovers. Valpo had 10 assists to its 13 turnovers.
