Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Justin Cobbs tallied a game-high 18 points to lead the California Golden Bears to a 73-63 win over UCLA in a Pac-12 bout at the L.A. Sports Arena.
Allen Crabbe added 14 points to help Cal (20-6, 10-3 Pac-12) complete its first season sweep over UCLA since 1993-94. With the victory, the Golden Bears notched their third 20-win season under fourth-year head coach Mike Montgomery. Jorge Gutierrez chipped in with 13 points, while Harper Kamp tallied 10 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Jerime Anderson and Lazeric Jones scored 16 apiece to pace the Bruins (14-11, 7-6), who suffered their first home loss in the last six tries. David Wear and Joshua Smith each scored 10 in the loss.
The Golden Bears trailed by as many as five points eight minutes into the contest. However, they went on to shoot a sizzling 56 percent from the floor in the opening frame and led 32-26 at the break.
Cal paraded to the free-throw line in the second stanza and converted 14-of-17 attempts to keep UCLA at bay. The Bruins trailed by as many as 17 midway through the period before making a late push, but they could get no closer than seven in the final minutes.
The Golden Bears entered the weekend tied for first in the Pac-12 with Washington, which plays at Oregon on Sunday. Cal shot 52 percent for the game, while UCLA managed just 39.7 percent.
