Greenville, SC (Sports Network) - Mike Neal scored 18 points off the bench to lead the Appalachian State Mountaineers to a 79-69 victory over the Furman Paladins in a Southern Conference bout at Timmons Arena.
G.J. Vilarino added 13 points to go with nine rebounds in the win for ASU (10-14, 6-8 SoCon), while Andre Williamson chipped in 10 points.
The Paladins (12-13, 6-8) were paced by Brandon Sebirumbi, who finished with 14 points while Bobby Austin tallied 10 points.
Furman held the Mountaineers to just 30.3 percent shooting from the floor during the initial period of play, but an 11-of-14 effort at the foul line gave ASU a slight 33-31 halftime edge.
The Mountaineers then connected on 56.5 percent of their attempts from the field over the final 20 minutes en route to the 10-point win.
ASU went 30-for-38 at the charity stripe overall during the meeting.
