(Monday, January 30th)

Final Score: College of Charleston 68, Samford 52

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Antwaine Wiggins scored a career-high 25 points as the College of Charleston Cougars grabbed a 68-52 win over the Samford Bulldogs in a Southern Conference battle at the Pete Hanna Center.

Matt Sundberg posted 14 points, Andrew Lawrence chipped in 11 points and eight assists, while Trent Wiedeman cleared a game-high 14 rebounds for the Cougars (13-9, 5-6 SoCon) as they snapped a four-game slide in their second game under the direction of associate head coach Mark Byington who has been named interim head coach while Bobby Cremins takes a medical leave of absence.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs (7-14, 4-6) were Tyler Hood and Raijon Kelly with 11 points apiece, followed by Drew Windler with 10 and seven boards as the team had a two-game win streak come to an end.

Samford led by two points late in the first half, but a run by the Cougars to close out the frame provided the visitors with a 38-28 advantage at the break, even as Charleston shot just 36.8 percent from the field.

In the second half Samford failed to make a single trip to the free-throw line, converted a mere 4-of-19 beyond the arc and 29.4 percent from the floor, en route to the 16-point setback.

The Cougars pulled off the win even as they shot just 37.1 percent from the floor.
