Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Devon Moore made the game winning field goal with seconds remaining in overtime to give the James Madison Dukes a 71-69 victory over the Stetson Hatters in the consolation game of the UCF Holiday Invitational at UCF Arena.
Humpty Hitchens led the Dukes (7-4) with 26 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field. Moore finished with 10 points and five assists. A.J. Davis struggled as he went 2-of-11 from the floor to score eight points.
Aaron Graham paced the Hatters (4-8) with 26 points as he went 5-of-10 from three-point range. Adam Pegg had 19 points and Joel Naburgs chipped in 11 points and five assists. Liam McInerney pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for Stetson as it lost its fifth-straight decision.
Stetson held a narrow 26-25 lead at the intermission after it shot 41.7 percent from the field in the first period. The Dukes were lucky to stay close after making just 36.4 of their field goal attempts and just 1-of-8 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.
James Madison shot even worse after halftime, making just 35.5 percent of its field goal attempts. The Dukes were able to stage a comeback by forcing Stetson into 11 second half turnovers. The Hatters led by three with seconds left in regulation before Hitchens drained a three-pointer to send the contest into overtime.
Hitchens knocked down another triple to give the Dukes a three-point lead with a minute left in overtime. Adam Pegg converted an old-fashioned three-point play to tie it up before Moore made the final shot to give James Madison the win.
The Hatters left some points on the board as they went 16-of-24 from the free throw line in the loss. The Dukes converted 11-of-14 from the charity stripe.
