GAME NOTES: The Morgan State Bears will try yet against to secure their first win of the season as they take on the Cal Poly Mustangs in the Las Vegas Invitational at Orleans Arena.

Morgan State is now 0-4 after coming up short against USC in a 65-62 loss. The Bears lost to Xavier, Murray State and UNLV in their first three games, and Todd Bozeman's squad is scoring 62 points per game on 42.4 percent shooting, while allowing opponents to net 77.8 points per game.

Cal Poly is off to a 2-2 start after losing 75-52 to UNLV. Joe Callero's squad dominated San Jose State in its opener before losing to Cal State Bakersfield. The Mustangs upset USC in a low-scoring affair prior to the UNLV loss. Cal Poly is shooting 37 percent from the field and just 24 percent from three- point range to average 57.8 points per game. The Mustangs are holding foes to just 55.8 points per game and 40 percent shooting from the floor.

This bout marks the first-ever meeting between Cal Poly and Morgan State in men's basketball.

Morgan State is led by senior Kevin Thompson. The forward has a double-digit scoring average for the third-straight year. Thompson recorded his second double-double of the season against the Trojans with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The senior is leading the team in both scoring and rebounds with 13.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. 7-2 Center Ian Chiles has been coming on as of late. The big man had his best game of the year against UNLV with 16 points and seven rebounds before scoring 13 with four rebounds against USC. Chiles leads the team with 10 blocks this season.

Cal Poly's Amaurys Fermin has waited a long time to play Division I basketball. After two years in junior college, Fermin transferred to Cal Poly. After the guard sat out a season due to transfer rules, he suffered an injury which kept him out another year. Finally, Fermin took the court the season and the wait was well worth it for Cal Poly. Fermin is leading the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game. The senior scored 17 in the opener to set the tone for the Mustangs' season. Will Taylor is also taken advantage of his last year of college basketball with Cal Poly. Taylor is scoring 10 points per game while leading the team in rebounds with 7.3 rebounds per outing.

Cal Poly should be favored against Morgan State, but not by much. The Bears are hungry for their first win. Thompson and Chiles could create match up problems for the Mustangs as the two have size and intensity that could match any lineup in the country. Fermin will be the x-factor in this one. If he can control the game and score points, the Mustangs will be able to fend off Morgan State.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Cal Poly 70, Morgan State 66
