Cancun, MX (Sports Network) - Gary Flowers scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and D.J. Newbill added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals as Southern Miss edged East Tennessee State, 64-60, in the Cancun Governor's Cup.
LaShay Page added 10 points while Maurice Bolden came off the bench to chip in with nine points and six boards for the Golden Eagles (8-1), who have won three in a row and will meet Saint Louis in Thursday's semifinals.
Micah Williams scored 16 points while Justin Tubbs supplied 14 points, four boards and three steals for the Buccaneers (4-6), who have dropped two in a row and four of their last five games.
Leading 16-12 with six minutes remaining in the first half, Page sparked a 12-3 spurt with a three-pointer and back-to-back buckets to grab a 28-15 advantage with 2:22 left before the break. The Golden Eagles led 33-19 after the first 20 minutes.
Southern Miss lead by as many as 18 in the second half before Tubbs dropped in two layups and consecutive triples to ignite a 14-2 run that made it a 48-43 game with just under 9 1/2 minutes to play.
The Golden Eagles rebuilt the lead to 11 before East Tennessee made a late push and moved to within 62-60 on a Williams trifecta with six seconds left before two Angelo Johnson foul shots sewed up the win.
