Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Freshman Al-Farouq Aminu scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and No. 21 Wake Forest kicked off its 2008-09 campaign with a 94-48 rout of North Carolina Central.
Aminu made 9-of-12 from the field to lead the Demon Deacons (1-0), who shot a shade under 60 percent from the field in the blowout win. James Johnson scored 18 points and raked in 10 rebounds for Wake Forest, and Jeff Teague scored 14 points and tallied six assists.
Chas McFarland added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Deacons, and Tony Woods also scored 12 points for Wake, in its second season under head coach Dino Gaudio after the death of former coach Skip Prosser.

The game got out of hand early, as Aminu led the Deacons offense to a big lead. A fastbreak layup by the freshman forward capped a 39-8 run to start the game, and the overmatched Eagles were down for the count. Wake led 46-22 at the half, and kept the pressure on in the second half for a 46-point margin of victory.
Wake Forest won its 45th straight home game against non-ACC opponents from North Carolina. The Deacons are 38-0 all-time against such opponents in Joel Coliseum...Wake scored 26 points off of 22 NC Central turnovers...The Eagles made 10-of-19 from the free-throw line.
