(Saturday, January 26) Final Score: Virginia 65, Boston College 51 Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - Akil Mitchell and Justin Anderson each scored 16 points, as the Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Boston College Eagles, 65-51, in Atlantic Coast Conference play at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers (14-5, 4-2 ACC) shot 56.3 percent from the floor as a team to notch their third straight win. Ryan Anderson paced the Eagles (9-10, 1-5) with 14 points, although he shot just 5-of-14 from the floor and committed a game-high five turnovers. Olivier Hanlan and Joe Rahon rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points each. BC made only 9-of-25 field goals (.360) in the first half, but five of those field goals came from beyond the arc as the Eagles claimed a 26-24 halftime lead. However, UVA caught fire in the second half, as the Cavaliers shot a blistering 17-of-22 (.773) from the floor and outscored BC, 41-25, over the final 20 minutes. The Cavs made only 2-of-9 3-pointers for the game, but their interior play was very efficient as they held a 40-16 advantage in points in the paint. 01/26 16:21:12 ET |
