Description: Broncos tight end Joel Dreessen (knee surgery) will not be available for Week 2 against the Giants.
Insight: Given Julius Thomas' production in Week 1 (5-110-2) neither Dreessen or Jacob Tamme figure to get much usage.

Description: Broncos tight end Joel Dreessen (knee surgery) will not be available for Week 1 against Baltimore.
Insight: Dreessen previously had his knee scoped back in May and apparently it never fully healed. Denver is starting Julius Thomas with Manning favorite Jacob Tamme and Virgil Green backing him up. The addition of Wes Welker to an already strong receiving corps probably makes all Denver tight ends non-factors.

Insight: Dreessen previously had his knee scoped back in May. Apparently it never fully healed. It's unknown if he'll be ready for the regular season opener against Baltimore next month.

Description: One tight end wasn't enough for the Broncos. In addition to signing Jacob Tamme, Denver also added former Texan Joel Dreessen to the fold on Friday. Dreessen signed for three years and $8.5 million.
Insight: Owen Daniels was ahead of Dreessen on the depth chart in Houston so he decided to head elsewhere. Dreessen should have a chance to compete with Tamme for the starting tight end job in Denver. Dreessen hauled in 28 catches for 353 yards last season but that was mostly with rookie T.J. Yates at quarterback. Expect him to improve those stats with Manning under center.

Description: According to Nick Scurfield of, Dreessen will get the start Monday night despite Owen Daniels' return.
Insight: Daniels has missed six games because of a hamstring injury, so the team is likely trying to ease him back in. His mere presence hurts the outlook for Dreessen. (
12/9/2010 4:05:00 PM
Description: Dreessen was worried that he had cracked a rib or two late in the Week 13 loss at Philly, but the team has deemed it only a bruise.
Insight: Either way, Owen Daniels appears set to return in Week 14 and render Dreessen's name forgettable once again for fantasy owners. (

Description: Texans TE Joel Dreessen reportedly suffered an injury to his ribs against the Eagles Thursday night. SOURCE: HOUSTON CHRONICLE
Insight: There is belief that Dreessen may have cracked a rib or two, but we have seen the last of his fantasy value anyway. With Owen Daniels expected back for Week Fourteen, Dreessen will go back to a reserve role once healthy. Dreessen caught five passes for 63 yards in the loss.
12/3/2010 10:03:00 AM
Description: Dreessen came away from the Thursday night game with what might turn out to be a cracked rib or two. He complained afterward of pain that was so bad he felt "nauseous."
Insight: Dreessen did catch five passes for 63 yards -- each second best on the team -- but he appears likely to cede the starting spot back to Owen Daniels in Week 14. (
11/27/2010 11:01:00 PM
Description: Dreessen will start again in Week 12, with Owen Daniels having been ruled out for the fourth straight time.
Insight: Dreessen used an out-of-character long touchdown to inflate his Week 11 yardage, but he has been solid with three four-catch games in Daniels' absence this year. He's an OK play against Tennessee. (
11/22/2010 11:01:00 AM
Description: Dreessen caught four balls for 106 yards on Sunday, including a 43-yard touchdown.
Insight: He's far from a dynamic option, but with Owen Daniels ailing and so many other Texans coming up short of expectations, Dreessen has emerged as a solid fantasy contributor. (
11/19/2010 2:03:00 PM
Description: Dreessen will start once again for Houston in Week 11, as Owen Daniels has already been ruled out because of a hamstring injury.
Insight: It's good for fantasy owners to gain such clarity before the weekend, but no Texan looks good this weekend. In Dreessen's case, the Jets sit tied for second fewest receptions allowed to tight ends for the season. (
11/13/2010 1:05:00 PM
Description: Dreessen will get the start for Houston in Week 10, as Owen Daniels has been ruled for the second straight week with hamstring injury.
Insight: Dreessen isn't a special player, but he has produced two five-catch games already this year and faces a Jacksonville defense that is particularly horrid against the pass. He's a decent Week 10 option.(
11/7/2010 12:04:00 PM
Description: Dreessen will start for the Texans in Week 9, as Owen Daniels is inactive with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Dreessen has just eight catches for the season but grabbed five of those in a start against Oakland earlier this year. He's a decent late fill-in option against a San Diego defense that has allowed plenty of production by tight ends. (
10/5/2010 1:05:00 AM
Description: Dreessen caught five passes for 73 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, as Owen Daniels was limited.
Insight: There could be a few more days like this for Dreessen, but he'll be tough to trust when Daniels is active. He's not worth adding in the typical fantasy league. (
7/29/2010 7:48:00 PM
Description: Joel Dreessen will run as the Texans' No. 1 tight end in training camp due to Owen Daniels' ACL injury.
Insight: Dreesen is not a good comparable to Daniels, would not be utilized anywhere near as often and therefore is not draftable. (
5/27/2010 8:51:00 PM
Description: Texans TE Joel Dreessen is working fully at OTAs after undergoing ankle and shoulder surgeries after last season.
Insight: Dreesen is only keeping the seat warm for Owen Daniels. Once the starter returns, he'll go back to having no fantasy value. (
1/4/2010 8:16:00 AM
Description: Dreessen caught a season-high six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots on Sunday.
Insight: Dreessen finished the season with 13 catches for 186 yards over his final three games. (
12/28/2009 10:00:00 PM
Description: Dreessen caught four passes for a season-high 65 yards on Sunday against Miami.
Insight: Dreessen now has ten catches over his last three games as the Texans have been getting him more involved in the passing game. (
12/21/2009 7:46:00 AM
Description: Dreessen caught three passes for 40 yards on Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Dreessen had his best game of the season and now has six catches for 62 yards over his past two games. He is still too unreliable to count on in fantasy. (
12/15/2009 9:09:00 PM
Description: Dreessen caught three passes for 22 yards on Sunday against Seattle.
Insight: Dreessen has not had three catches in a game since Week 2 against the Titans. He has little fantasy value. (
