NCAA Game Summary - Utah State at Tennessee

(Sunday, August 31)

Final Score: Tennessee 38, Utah State 7

Knoxville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Worley threw three touchdown passes in the Tennessee Volunteers' 38-7 victory over the Utah State Aggies on Sunday.

Worley completed 27-of-38 passes for 273 yards for the Volunteers (1-0), who went 5-7 last season and posted a losing record for the fourth consecutive year. The senior quarterback missed Tennessee's final four games last season due to a thumb injury.

Marlin Lane carried the ball 11 times for 41 yards and a score for Tennessee, which has won 20 consecutive home openers.

Chuckie Keeton connected on 18-of-35 passes for 144 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Aggies (0-1), who went 9-5 last season and beat Northern Illinois in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Keeton was off to an outstanding start in 2013, completing just shy of 70 percent of his passes for 1,388 yards, 18 touchdowns and just two interceptions to go with strong rushing stats (241 yards, two TDs), but he was lost for the season in early October with a knee injury.

Tennessee put the game away early. Josh Smith caught a 38-yard pass on the Volunteers' second possession of the game. That led to Pig Howard's 8-yard TD run.

Kennedy Williams fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Tennessee took over at the 12-yard line. Brendan Downs then caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Worley to make it 14-0 with over nine minutes to play in the first quarter.

Tennessee kicker Aaron Medley made a 36-yard field goal with one minute left until the half.

Utah State kicker Jake Thompson missed a 48-yard field goal to start the second half. The Volunteers followed with a 13-play, 69-yard drive that Von Pearson capped with a 14-yard TD catch.

Tennessee outscored Utah State by a 14-7 margin in the fourth quarter.
