NFL Game Summary - Indianapolis at Jacksonville

(Sunday, October 3rd)

Final Score: Jacksonville 31, Indianapolis 28

Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Josh Scobee made a career-long 59-yard field goal as time expired to give Jacksonville a thrilling 31-28 victory over Indianapolis.

David Garrard completed 17-of-22 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars (2-2), who bounced back from a 28-3 loss to the Eagles last Sunday. He also ran for 44 yards and a score on five carries.

Maurice Jones-Drew carried the ball 26 times for 105 yards and a score. He also caught two passes for 16 yards and a touchdown.

"We've been saying that we got a lot of weapons now. We showed quite a bit today," Garrard said.

Peyton Manning connected on 33-of-46 passes for 352 yards, two touchdowns and a pick for the Colts (2-2), who saw a two-game winning streak come to an end.

Joseph Addai carried the ball 16 times for 63 yards and two scores. Reggie Wayne hauled in 15 passes for a game-high 196 yards.

"We certainly expected it to be a grind. They played well," Colts head coach Jim Caldwell said. "The guys were able to fight back and hang in there."

With the score tied at 21-21 with 7:35 to play, the Jaguars started at their own 43 following a good kick return. Faced with a 3rd-and-4, Tiquan Underwood caught a 13-yard pass for a first down. An unnecessary roughness penalty added 15 yards onto the end of the play. The home team was called for a false start on a 3rd-and-goal from the three, but Jones-Drew caught an eight-yard pass for a score on the next play for a seven-point lead with 2:09 to go.

The back-and-forth game continued as Manning led the Colts on a game-tying drive. Faced with a 4th-and-10 from the 35, Dallas Clark caught a 16-yard pass to keep the Colts alive.

On the next play, Wayne beat his man down the left sideline for a 42-yard play. That left the Colts with four plays to score from seven yards out. Addai got the ball to the one on second down. Manning then rolled to his right and hit Austin Collie in the end zone for a 28-28 game with 48 seconds left.

The Jaguars started from their 23-yard line with just 42 ticks remaining. Garrard connected with Underwood for six yards on 3rd-and-2. Underwood followed with a 22-yard catch to get Jacksonville to the 41 of the Colts.

Following an incomplete pass, Scobee came onto the field to attempt the winning field goal. The veteran kicker got just enough on the 59-yarder to get it over the crossbar and give Jacksonville the victory. It was the longest field goal in franchise history.

The Colts got the ball to start the game and drove right down the field, culminating with Addai's two-yard score. The Jaguars fought right back with a touchdown of their own as Garrard capped the nine-play march with a 25-yard TD run.

Jacksonville bridged the first and second frames with a seven-play, 45-yard drive. On 3rd-and-goal from the one, Jones-Drew rumbled into the end zone to give the Jaguars a 14-7 lead.

Indianapolis responded with a touchdown on its ensuing possession to tie the game again. The Colts converted two third downs on an 11-play, 85-yard drive that Clark capped with a seven-yard score and the game stood at 14-all at the half.

Indianapolis was driving early in the third stanza, but Anthony Smith picked off Manning and returned the ball 47 yards to the Colts' 49. Jacksonville converted two third downs on a seven-play drive that Marcedes Lewis capped with a 15-yard TD catch for a 21-14 lead.

The Colts marched the ball down the field with ease again. Early in the fourth quarter, Wayne caught a 13-yard pass before fumbling the ball. Gerald Alexander recovered for the Jaguars and returned it 43 yards to the Indy 47.

Jacksonville went three-and-out, though, and Indianapolis capitalized with a two-yard score from Addai to make it a 21-21 game with 7:35 to play.
