Description: ESPN.com- The Rays signed veteran infielder Felipe Lopez to a Minor League deal on Wednesday that includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training. Lopez, who lives in Orlando, Fla., could earn $1 million in guaranteed salary plus $1 million in performance incentives if he makes Tampa Bay's Major League roster.
Insight: If he makes the Major League roster, it will probably be as a utility infielder. The Rays' starting infield will consist of Evan Longoria (3B), Reid Brignac (SS), Sean Rodriguez (2B), and either Ben Zobrist or Dan Johnson (1B). But if someone gets hurt or struggles, then Felipe Lopez will be a valuable backup. (RapidDraft.com)
