Description: Craig Counsell is starting at second base for the Brewers on Thursday with Rickie Weeks out. SOURCE: Tyler Barnes on Twitter
Insight: Counsell is getting older and his bat is getting slower so even with more playing time, he won't be the best option. He may have a bit more value, but not much.

Description: Craig Counsell has signed a one-year deal to stay in Milwaukee. SOURCE: KEN ROSENTHAL
Insight: He will be a valuable, versatile bench player for the Brewers but he won't help any fantasy owners.
8/17/2010 11:45:00 PM
Description: Tom Haudricort of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, via Twitter, that Counsell said he'd be open to being traded to a contending team.
Insight: Counsell has successfully passed through waivers, so he can be dealt to any team. He is not likely to suddenly become useful, to either a fantasy team or a contending real team. (
3/13/2010 10:11:00 PM
Description:, Counsell was scratched from Saturday's game due to a stiff neck.
Insight: This does not seem like too serious an issue, as Brewers' manager Ken Macha appears to be given Counsell some autonomy regarding when he plays again. At age 39, he may be wise to take it easy for a few days. (
Steady7/19/2009 12:38:00 PM
Description: Counsell broke out his power stroke and had a double and his third homer of the season on Saturday. He has four hits in his last two games.
Insight: Counsell has been getting consistent playing time at second base for the Brewers. He is a decent on-base kind of guy who will score runs in front of the Brewers' big boppers. Don't expect much speed or the power he displayed against the Reds. (
Steady6/22/2009 9:16:00 AM
Description: Counsell his his second homer of the season. He has a six-game hitting streak and a four-game RBI streak.
Insight: Since Rickie Weeks was lost for the season, Counsell has been a decent second baseman. He had been splitting time with Curtis McGehee (who started at DH during the season at Detroit), but he is getting consistent playing time and hitting .299. (
Hot5/19/2009 9:32:00 AM
Description: Counsell will start at second base for the Brewers for the foreseeable future to replace Rickie Weeks.
Insight: Counsell is hitting .324 this season and has a .419 on-base percentage. He is one of those players who won't help in power or speed, but he gets on base and will score runs. (
