MLB Game Summary - Tampa Bay at Milwaukee
(Tuesday, June 21st)
Final Score: Milwaukee 5, Tampa Bay 1
Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Zack Greinke threw seven fantastic innings,
giving up only one run on four hits to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-1 win
over the Tampa Bay Rays at Miller Park.
Greinke (7-2) fanned 10 Rays without issuing a walk to earn the victory for
Milwaukee.
"It was a good game all around. I feel like I've been pitching pretty well the
last month or so," Greinke said. "It was nice to get some good results. My
changeup was pretty good tonight. Maybe that kept them off-balance a little
bit. They had a bunch of lefties so we tried it a little more and it was
working so we stayed with it."
Ryan Braun collected a two-run single and Jonathan Lucroy added three hits for
the Brewers, who had lost four of their previous five games, including the
opener of this three-game series on Monday.
Yuniesky Betancourt smacked a solo home run for Milwaukee.
Jeremy Hellickson (7-6) worked six innings in defeat, giving up two runs on
three hits while walking four and striking out three.
"Jeremy's command was way off," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "He just didn't
know where his ball was going, but to his credit he kept us in the game."
John Jaso belted an RBI single for the Rays, who had their four-game winning
streak snapped.
The Brewers broke the game open in the seventh after loading the bases with
one out on a single and a pair of walks. Braun stepped up and ripped a two-run
single to left, and Prince Fielder followed with an RBI single to give the
Brewers a comfortable 5-1 margin.
Milwaukee opened the scoring in its first at-bat. The Brewers loaded the bases
on walks to Rickie Weeks, Braun and Fielder. Casey McGehee lofted a sacrifice
fly to left to plate Weeks and give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.
The Brewers extended their lead in the second on Betancourt's leadoff shot to
left, his fourth home run of the 2011 campaign.
Tampa Bay cut its deficit by one in the seventh. B.J. Upton smacked a one-out
double to right and scampered home on an RBI single by Jaso. Greinke escaped
further trouble by fanning Reid Brignac and inducing an easy grounder to
Fielder to end the inning.
