Dodgers' Capuano lands on DL

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers placed pitcher Chris Capuano on the 15-day disabled list prior to Wednesday's game against the San Diego Padres.

Capuano exited Tuesday's 9-2 loss to the Padres in the top of the third inning after straining his left calf. The veteran left-hander was making his first start of the season in place of Zack Greinke, who fractured his left collarbone in a well-publicized on-field scuffle with San Diego's Carlos Quentin last Thursday.

Quentin is currently serving an eight-game suspension for his role in the incident.

The Dodgers also announced that utilityman Jerry Hairston, Jr., who received a one-game ban for taking part in the benches-clearing fracas, has dropped his appeal of the suspension and will sit out Wednesday's contest as a result.

To fill Capuano's roster spot, the Dodgers recalled catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Albuquerque. The 25-year-old appeared in one game with Los Angeles after making the team's Opening Day roster, but was optioned to the minors last week.
