Dodgers activate Billingsley from DL
San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chad Billingsley will make his season debut Wednesday at San Diego after the team activated the right-hander from the 15-day disabled list.
Billingsley will be making his first major league start since last August, having missed the final six weeks of last season with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He was also set back this spring by a bruised index finger on his throwing hand.
The seven-year veteran, who went 10-9 with a 3.55 earned run average in 25 starts before being shut down in 2012, did throw four innings in a rehab assignment for the Dodgers' Class A affiliate in Rancho Cucamonga this past Thursday.
To make room for Billingsley on the 25-man roster, Los Angeles optioned backup catcher Tim Federowicz following Tuesday's 9-3 loss to the Padres.
