Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, cornerback Darrelle Revis is joining the Patriots on a one-year, $12 million contract.
Insight: That didn't take long. The Buccaneers released Revis Wednesday afternoon. Despite returning from a torn ACL and playing in an ill-fitting scheme, Revis rated as one of the top corners in the NFL last season on Pro Football Focus' rankings.

Insight: Things are about to get very interesting. At this point, New England looks like the favorite to land Revis though we can't rule out the Jets, Giants or even the Eagles just yet. Who knows, maybe the Browns and Raiders will find their way back into the mix. ESPN's John Clayton said on SportsCenter that Revis is looking for an annual salary of at least $12 million.

Description: Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is hearing Darrelle Revis "would love to be a Patriot."
Insight: Revis also said he'd love to play for the Jets so who knows where he'll actually end up. For New England, adding Revis would certainly ease the pain of losing Aqib Talib. NESN's Doug Kyed reports the Patriots are also looking into free agent corners Antonio Cromartie and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Insight: The Browns and Raiders have both pulled out of the Revis sweepstakes. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Revis is very open to returning to the Jets. He'll become the biggest free agent on the market as soon as the Buccaneers cut him.

Description: Tampa Bay will release cornerback Darrelle Revis if he is not traded before Wednesday at 4 p.m. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: It looks like this is really happening. Revis is due a $1.5 million roster bonus on Thursday and the Buccaneers have no intention of paying it. So far, the Raiders and Browns have shown the most interest.

Description: Tampa Bay is exploring trade options for star cornerback Darrelle Revis. SOURCE: Alex Marvez, Fox Sports
Insight: Revis is costing the Buccaneers an absurd amount of money ($16 million a season) but it's hard to believe they'd be willing to trade their best player after he arrived in Tampa less than a year ago. The 28-year-old is set to earn a $1.5 million roster bonus later this week.

12/1/2013 10:46:00 AM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis (groin) will play Sunday against Carolina, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Insight: Revis strained his groin last week against the Lions. He'll likely cover Steve Smith, who has zero 100-yard games this season and hasn't scored a touchdown since Oct. 20. Smith is a low-end WR3.

Insight: Revis had been covering top Lions wideout Calvin Johnson. Now that responsibility falls on Leonard Johnson.

9/7/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis has been cleared to play Week 1 against the Jets.
Insight: Revis tore his ACL in Week 3 last season. The cornerback will join a Bucs team that had the No. 1 rush defense in the NFL but allowed the most passing yards in the league last season.

8/20/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis is a full participant in practice and is on schedule play in Week 1 against his former teammates, the Jets.
Insight: Revis tore his ACL a little less than a year ago. Assuming he hasn't lost a step, Revis should be one of the most feared corners in the game and make the Bucs' pass defense, which gave up a league-worst 4,758 yards last season, much better.

Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis should be a go for Week 1 against the Jets. SOURCE: Sports Illustrated
Insight: Revis tore his ACL a little less than a year ago and is almost back to full strength. Assuming he hasn't lost a step, Revis should continue to be one of the most feared corners in the game.

4/21/2013 4:53:00 PM
Description: Cornerback Darrelle Revis has passed his physical, making the trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers complete. The Jets will received the 13th-overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and a conditional pick in 2014.
Insight: Revis also has agreed to a six-year contract with the Bucs that reportedly will pay him $16 million each year, making him the highest-paid DB in history, but includes no guaranteed money (per Adam Schefter). Tampa Bay and New York have been discussing a Revis trade for months, but the Bucs' unwillingness to part with that draft choice had been holding up the deal. With Revis and Dashon Goldson in place, Tampa Bay potentially will have a game-changing pass defense to combat the likes of Roddy White, Julio Jones, Jimmy Graham, Marques Colston and Steve Smith in the NFC South.

4/21/2013 1:55:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN, the Jets have a deal in place to send Darrell Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Insight: The trade is pending a physical, and is reported to include the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Tampa Bay and New York have been discussing a Revis trade for months, but the Bucs' unwillingness to part with that draft choice had been holding up the deal. With Revis and Dashon Goldson in place, Tampa Bay potentially will have a game-changing pass defense to combat the likes of Roddy White, Julio Jones, Jimmy Graham, Marques Colston and Steve Smith.

3/16/2013 3:42:00 PM
Description: The Jets were unable to trade cornerback Darrelle Revis before Saturday's deadline and now must pay him a $1 million roster bonus.
Insight: Don't read too much into this. Just because New York couldn't work out a deal before Saturday doesn't mean he won't be dealt this offseason. The implication is that Revis will walk when his deal expires at the end of 2013, which would give the Jets plenty of incentive to trade him. Losing $1 million now and trading Revis later is still better than getting nothing for him when he leaves in free agency.

3/14/2013 7:07:00 PM
Description: A Darrelle Revis trade to Tampa Bay looked imminent but now the deal has hit a snag as the Bucs appear to be unwilling to part with their first round draft pick.
Insight: Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports insists that the deal is "not dead." If there's any middle ground to be found, the two sides need to find it quickly. If Revis is still on New York's roster on Saturday he'll be eligible for a $1 million roster bonus.

3/7/2013 4:39:00 PM
Description: Adam Schefter from ESPN said that the Jets are "determined" to deal cornerback Darrelle Revis before next month's draft.
Insight: Revis' trade value would have been significantly higher if he hadn't torn his ACL last season. Atlanta, Detroit, San Francisco and Tampa Bay have all been mentioned as potential landing spots for the Pro Bowl corner.

2/28/2013 1:27:00 PM
Description: A source of ESPN's Chris Mortensen's debunked the report that the 49ers were expected to pursue Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis with some of their expected 15 picks in the 2013 Draft.
Insight: Two sources told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday that San Francisco was "poised to make a run" at the cornerback, who is coming back from a torn ACL. Revis is in search of a long-term extension and has obvious injury question marks so teams might be wary of surrending a huge package of picks and/or players to the Jets.

2/27/2013 5:52:00 PM
Description: According to two sources, the 49ers are among a handful of teams that have discussed pursuing Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Insight: San Francisco already has 11 selections in the 2013 Draft and expects to have four more (one from the Alex Smith deal, three from compensation for players lost in free agency last offseason). Adding Revis to an already stacked defense could be deadly for opposing offenses.

1/24/2013 12:25:00 PM
Description: Peter King of Sports Illustrated believes a team will need to give up at least a first round pick in order for the Jets to trade away cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Insight: Revis sat out most of last season after tearing his ACL in Week 3. When he's healthy, Revis is still one of the best defensive backs in football. We're guessing it would take a pretty substantial offer for the Jets to even consider moving the four-time Pro Bowler.
