Description: Jose Alvarez allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven over six innings Sunday against the Indians to win his MLB debut. He was immediately sent back to Triple-A Toledo, however.
Insight: The 24-year-old has a 2.42 ERA and a 76/15 K/BB in 74 1/3 innings with Triple-A Toledo this season. He was making a spot start in place of Anibal Sanchez, who was scratched due to stiffness in his right shoulder. Sanchez is expected to be ready for his next start, but fantasy owners should keep Alvarez in mind if Sanchez has to go on the DL at some point.

Description: Detroit minor league starting pitcher Jose Alvarez has pitched very well in his first eight starts for Triple-A Toledo, going 3-2 with a 1.69 ERA and 1.00 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched. He has yielded two or less earned runs in his last seven outings.
Insight: If No. 5 starter Rick Porcello continues to struggle, the Tigers have an option in the minor leagues ready to go. Detroit also has Drew Smyly pitching well out of the bullpen, so barring multiple injuries, Alvarez might not get a call up until September.
