Insight: Chen gave up three runs in each of his previous four starts and four over 6 1/3 innings Friday night. Chen is an extreme flyball pitcher, so his success is tied to the longball. He allowed just three over his first 60 2/3 innings and had a 2.67 ERA in that span, but the lefty has allowed five over his last 34 and has a 4.24 ERA during that timeframe.

Insight: Chen, who is dealing with a strained oblique, hasn't pitched since May 12. Manager Buck Showalter said it's possible Chen will make just one rehab start. "I think it's just a test," Chen said. "Get the game feeling back and that's it. Right now I'm pitching like it's Spring Training. It's step by step. But if I feel really good [after the] next outing, I'll definitely come back really soon." Showalter said the team will give Chen extra rest between his first few outings after he comes off the DL.

Insight: Chen (9-6, 3.65 ERA) a 27-year-old rookie from Taiwan, has been a major surprise this season, though he came into Sunday 1-4 in his last five decisions. While the 12-strikeout performance was an aberration, it's good to see the left-hander isn't breaking down 21 starts into his major league career.
