Description: David Waldstein from the New York Times says the Yankees are trying to lure former Cubs and Marlins first baseman Derrek Lee out of retirement.
Insight: They're also knocking on Chipper Jones' door. Lee last played for the Pirates in 2011, hitting .337 in 28 games (he hit just .246 in 85 appearances with the Orioles earlier in the season). Even New York GM Brian Cashman admitted that signing Lee would be a long shot but you can't blame him for trying. Desperate times call for desperate measures. If the Yankees can't work out a deal for Lee, Juan Rivera would likely open the season at first base with Kevin Youkilis occupying the hot corner.

Description: Derek Lee had three hits and scored the game winning run in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox.
Insight: It looks like Lee has turned the corner on his early season struggles. He is a low end 1st baseman option because of his lack of power, but could be useful in deeper leagues.

3/29/2011 5:05:00 PM
Description: Orioles 1st baseman Derek Lee got off to a late and slow start this spring as he was rehabbing a thumb issue this winter. Lee has been struggling to get going at the plate but finished off the spring nicely going 3 for 4 at the plate hitting a few doubles.
Insight: If Lee stays healthy this season he could hit 25-30 homers in hitter friendly Camden Yards. Lee is a nice play in AL only leagues but 1st base is too deep this year to draft him in mixed leagues.

Description: After fouling a ball off of his foot yesterday Orioles 1B Derrek Lee will sit out of today's spring training action. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: The injury is just a bruise and Lee should be ready to go by Opening Day.

Description: Derrek Lee (wrist) will take batting practice today. SOURCE: ROCH KUBATKO
Insight: It's getting to the point where we are close to ruling Lee out for opening day. He will need to get into game action in less than a week to get the necessary at-bats to be ready. Don't go overboard on projections for Lee's 2011 power numbers since his wrist is clearly still an issue.

3/17/2011 1:01:00 AM
Description: Lee is expected to take live batting practice Thursday as he returns from a sore right wrist.
Insight: The team has been cautious, but it appears this won't be a lingering issue for the veteran first baseman. He's not a fantasy target at this point but still a player with the talent to deliver surprise value. (RapidDraft.com)

3/10/2011 2:05:00 PM
Description: The MRI on Derrek Lee's sore right wrist came back normal according to MLB.com. Lee, who went for the MRI Wednesday afternoon after visiting a specialist on Tuesday, had surgery on his right thumb in the offseason. That injury isn't believed to have caused this one, but the process it took for Lee's thumb to heal may be connected.
Insight: This is a good sign for the veteran first baseman and the Orioles. He has yet to play in a Spring Training game and the O's could really use his bat this season. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: An MRI on Derreck Lee's wrist showed nothing Abnormal and it's only tendonitis. SOURCE: Jeff Zrebiec on Twitter
Insight: First base is far from a thin position this year. If the all the big hitters are gone, you can wait until the end of the draft and grab Lee.

3/9/2011 12:04:00 AM
Description: The Baltimore Sun reports that Lee will have an MRI Wednesday to check out his sore right wrist.
Insight: The team orthopedist has said he doesn't believe Lee has structural damage, so the team is just covering its bases. Lee should be ready for the season. (RapidDraft.com)

3/8/2011 8:29:00 PM
Description: Derrek Lee will have an MRI on his wrist tomorrow. SOURCE: MLB
Insight: He has been bothered by the wrist this month after off-season surgery. The MRI is precautionary but it is a good warning not to overrate his power potential this year.

Description: O's manager Buck Showalter said that 1B Derrek Lee could potentially make his Grapefruit League debut this weekend, and the plan is for him to play Saturday. SOURCE: MLB.com
Insight: First base is such a deep position that you don't need to gamble on Lee's health. If you can get him later in the draft he makes a good CI option, but don't be surprised to see his power numbers drop because of the thumb issue.

2/22/2011 11:05:00 AM
Description: Orioles 1B Derrek Lee is still recovering from off-season surgery but thinks he will be able to hit off of live pitching sooner than expected. SOURCE: Baltimore Sun
Insight: Wrist and hand injuries can have a tendency to sap a player's power so don't be surprised to see a decrease in Lee's HR totals this season.

2/21/2011 7:16:00 PM
Description: Derrek Lee's recovery from thumb surgery is progressing ahead of schedule. SOURCE: MASN
Insight: The Orioles don't seem concerned about him and expect him to be fine for spring work and opening day. Lee isn't a top ten 1B anymore but he should be a solid source of HR's and RBI's for your corner infield position.

1/6/2011 4:43:00 PM
Description: Derrek Lee's surgically repaired thumb is out of a cast and he doesn't expect it to be an issue this season. SOURCE: MASN
Insight: Don't expect anything close to his peak career production but there is no reason that Lee can't deliver a solid season for Baltimore this year. Something in the 25 home run range is possible.

12/31/2010 5:55:00 PM
Description: Derrek Lee has agreed to a one-year deal with Baltimore. SOURCE: DAN CONNOLLY
Insight: Not a bad fit for him. He has a decent offense around him and a favorable home park to work with. He should be a solid, but not spectacular CI for mixed league owners.

12/21/2010 1:04:00 PM
Description: Derrek Lee is looking for a contract between $8-10 million per season. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal via Twitter
Insight: Lee is still being considered by Baltimore and the Nationals but there are cheaper alternatives on the market. Unless he is willing to lower his asking price quickly, Lee could find himself without a team.

12/6/2010 12:34:00 PM
Description: The Diamondbacks are interested in adding Derrek Lee to play 1B for them. SOURCE: Jon Heyman via Twitter
Insight: Arizona has gaps at both corner infield spots after trading Mark Reynolds. Lee doesn't strike out as much as Reynolds but he does not have as much power, either. Consider him as a CI option in deeper NL-only leagues.

12/1/2010 2:17:00 PM
Description: If Adrian Beltre leaves Boston the team would most likely move Kevin Youkilis to third; the team would consider signing Derrek Lee to play 1B. SOURCE: Sports Illustrated
Insight: Lee would be a decent stop-gap option, especially since the Soc are rumored to be the front-runners to acquire Adrian Gonzalez if he ever hits the trade market.

11/8/2010 7:02:00 PM
Description: Derrek Lee underwent thumb surgery. SOURCE: YAHOO
Insight: He needs to find a new team this offseason and after a down year in 2010 he won't get the big money he desires. We still think he has enough value to find an everyday role.

10/6/2010 8:02:00 AM
Description: Lee went 1-for-3 with a home run, RBI, two walks and a run scored on Sunday against the Phillies.
Insight: Lee ended the year on a five game hitting streak as he hit .260 with 19 homers and 80 RBI in 148 games with the Cubs and Braves. (RapidDraft.com)
