Description: Cubs 3B Ian Stewart's latest MRI showed fluid in his left quadriceps and he's expected to start the season on the disabled list. | Insight: Stewart has some power but has never been able to stay healthy, so this fits into his pattern. At this point Luis Valbuena is the likely Opening Day starter at third base and could end up getting more time over the season than Stewart. Valbuena hit just .219 last season with little power so fantasy owners shouldn't expect him to be a viable fantasy option.

Description: Cubs 3B Ian Stewart will have another MRI on his left quad Monday, according to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. Stewart has only played one game since suffering an injury on Feb. 21. | Insight: Stewart has some power but he has been a miserable hitter in each of the last two seasons and missed the final three months of the 2012 season after having wrist surgery. Josh Vitters was optioned Sunday, leaving Luis Valbuena as the likely Opening Day starter at third base.

Description: Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart has faced White Sox starter Gavin Floyd just twice and hit a home run both times. | Insight: Stewart is hitting just .201 this season with a equally poor .627 OPS and done little to create any fantasy interest, but sometimes a matchup like this is worth taking a flier.

Description: Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart is a career .538 hitter (7-for-13) versus Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo with a 1.687 OPS | Insight: Stewart is hitting just .199 this season with a .625 OPS and done little to create any fantasy interest, but its hard to ignore this matchup.

Description: Ian Stewart is hitting just .167 lifetime against Ricky Nolasco, who gets the start today for the Marlins. | Insight: He's also in the midst of an 0-14 slump. Stay away from Stewart until he finds his stroke again.

Description: Ian Stewart hit his first homer as a Cub on Friday. | Insight: Stewart is hitting .308 (8-for-26) with a homer, five RBIs and three walks in his first season with Chicago. The former Colorado first-round draft pick was a popular breakout pick last after seasons of 25 and 18 home runs, but he had just 19 hits in 122 at-bats last season before being jettisoned by the Rockies in the offseason. Keep an eye on Stewart. The talent is there, it's just a matter of putting it all together. Perhaps the change of scenery will work wonders for him.

Description: Chicago Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart admitted on Tuesday that he would likely have to manage his left wrist injury for the entire season. "It's a thing that's probably not going to heal during the season, but it's not like it's broke or anything," he said | Insight: When Stewart was in Colorado he always showed power but at the expense of batting average. Wrist injuries usually sap distance from hitters which is enough to send me looking at other third base options.

Description: The Rockies demoted 3B Ian Stewart to the minors.
SOURCE: ESPN.com | Insight: Ty Wigginton was activated and took Stewart's place on the roster. Stewart has yet to claim the starting role despite many opportunities. If you need someone to produce now you should drop Stewart and add someone who will play.

Description: The Colorado Rockies have recalled third-baseman Ian Stewart. Since being demoted to Triple-A on April 19, Stewart was bashing the ball to a slash line of .361/.500/.750. He is expected to return to the Rockies starting lineup as early as tonight, when the Rockies visit Arizona.
Analysis Much like Brandon Wood, Stewart has been a top slugging prospect who, despite his continued prowess in the minors, simply hasn't put it together in The Show. Stewart's power is obvious- he hit 25 HR's in 491 plate appearances in 2009- but he also strikes out at an abysmal rate (career 32.3%). If you have an absolute NEED at 3B, consider taking a stab at Stewart. Otherwise, it's advisable to avoid him until he shows he can stay patient at the Major League level.

Description: Late Tuesday evening, third baseman Ian Stewart was optioned to the minors. His awful performance (.077/.143/.077) obviously prompted this decision. Ty Wigginton will likely continue to get starts at 3B.
Analysis Stewart is now at a similar crossroads as other post-hype guys such as Brandon Wood, Travis Buck, Jeff Clement, and Andy Marte, which just goes to show you how difficult the art of "prospecting" really is. Wigginton becomes a decent add in mixed-leagues, especially deeper ones, as he has hit 20+ homers in 4 of the past 5 seasons. | Insight:
