Tigers' Cabrera, Jackson share AL Player of Week honors

New York, NY (Sports Network) - A pair of Detroit Tigers, third baseman Miguel Cabrera and center fielder Austin Jackson, have been selected as the American League's Co-Players of the Week for games played from August 5-11.

Both players were instrumental in the Tigers' ripping off 12 consecutive wins from July 26-August 8 to take a firm lead atop the AL Central. It's the first time that two Detroit teammates have shared the award since it was instituted in 1974.

Cabrera, the reigning AL MVP and Triple Crown winner, batted .429 (12-for-28) with four home runs and 11 RBI over seven games this past week to claim his 10th career weekly honor. Two of those homers came in the ninth inning against Mariano Rivera in Detroit's three-game series with the New York Yankees over the weekend, one a game-tying two-run shot in Friday's opener and the other coming in front of Victor Martinez's solo blast that tied Sunday's contest at 4-4.

Jackson hit .371 (13-for-35) with four doubles, two triples and nine runs scored over the seven-game stretch, highlighted by a 4-for-6, three-double performance in Friday's 4-3, 10-inning loss to the Yankees.

Others receiving consideration for the award included Oakland's Josh Reddick and Kansas City pitchers Jeremy Guthrie and Greg Holland.
