GAME NOTES: Fresh off a dramatic victory three nights ago, the Illinois- Chicago Flames head to Calihan Hall to take on the Detroit Titans in a Horizon League matchup.

Illinois-Chicago beat crosstown rival Loyola-Chicago Wednesday night, 61-59, on point guard Gary Talton's running back shot with 1.7 seconds remaining. The much needed victory snapped a three-game slide for the Flames, who had dropped six of their previous seven overall.

Detroit has followed up a season-long five-game winning streak by dropping each of its last two outings, including Thursday's narrow 89-88 setback to Valparaiso. The loss snapped the Titans' 17-game home winning streak as well as their 22-game win streak when scoring 80 or more points.

These teams split a pair of meetings last season, although Detroit owns a 24-14 lead in the all-time series.

Talton didn't just come through at the end of Wednesday's game for UIC, he also registered a team-high 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Josh Crittle joined him in double figures with 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds. However, the Flames had to sweat out the final moments after watching a 14-point first- half lead slowly evaporate. They shot just 9-of-27 from the floor (.333) in the second half, although they also held Loyola to 8-of-23 shooting (.348) over the final 20 minutes. Coach Howard Moore has gone with the same starting- five virtually all season long. Talton leads the way with 13.2 ppg, followed by Daniel Barnes (11.3 ppg) who has knocked down a team-high 45 3-pointers (.372). Hayden Humes (10.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg) and Crittle (10.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg) are also averaging double figures in the scoring column.

All five starters average double figures for Detroit, led by Ray McCallum with 18.3 ppg. The Titans currently top the Horizon League in scoring (78.4 ppg), 3-point field goals made (141), steals (158), turnover margin (+5.6) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3). In fact, their turnover margin ranks fifth in the nation, while the Titans also rank second in the conference in assists (263) and third in blocked shots (70). Detroit led by as many as 22 points in the second half of Thursday's game, but Valpo closed out the contest with an incredible 51-28 run to steal the victory. Detroit had two looks at a potential game-winning bucket on its final possession, but both attempts were off the mark. Nick Minnerath poured in a career-high 36 points on 12-of-17 shooting in the loss, while Doug Anderson added 17 points and Jason Calliste scored 14.

These teams may have identical overall records, but UIC has the momentum entering this matchup. Still, winning inside Calihan Hall has not been an easy task for visiting teams.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Detroit 70, Illinois-Chicago 67
