Baton Rouge, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarell Martin tallied 20 points and eight rebounds as the LSU Tigers easily defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 92-81, in an SEC clash at Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Jordan Mickey had 19 points for the Tigers (16-9, 7-6 SEC), who snapped a two game losing skid. Shavon Coleman added 18 points, Andre Stringer scored 14, and Anthony Hickey chipped in 13.
Craig Sword netted a career-high 33 points on 11-of-16 shooting for the Bulldogs (13-13, 3-10), who have lost eight straight games. Trivante Bloodman and Roquez Johnson each finished with 11 points while Gavin Ware registered a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
LSU made 46.7 percent of its shots from the field in the first period and went 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, as it led 42-31 at halftime. Mississippi State shot 37.5 percent on its field goal attempts in the period.
In the second half, the Tigers held onto their lead as they connected on 55.2 percent of their field goal tries, despite the Bulldogs draining 60.7 percent of their shots, pushing its lead to 20, a deficit Mississppi State could not overcome.
Despite losing, the Bulldogs' bench outscored the Tigers' reserves, 26-16.
