GAME NOTES: The Northeastern Huskies look to continue their strong performances on the road as they take on the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at the Trask Coliseum on Saturday night.
Northeastern most recently suffered a 76-74 at the hands of Delaware. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Huskies who sit atop the CAA standings. It's a one-game road trip before heading back to Boston to take on James Madison.
UNCW is coming off a high-scoring 92-86 setback at William and Mary. It was the second loss in a row and fifth in the last six games for the Seahawks, who are now just 4-9 in league play. It will be a brief stay at home before heading north to square off with Old Dominion.
The Huskies lead the all-time series 7-4 over the Seahawks, taking seven of the last 10 meetings. In the last matchup just over a month ago, Northeastern posted a 68-64 win.
In the loss to the Blue Hens, Jonathan Lee supplied 23 points and six rebounds, while Quincy Ford added 21 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Lee and Ford were the only two Huskies to score in double figures. Joel Smith (knee) should be back in the lineup in this game. He leads the team in scoring with 17.0 ppg, while shooting nearly 50.0 percent from the field and 42.8 percent from beyond the arc. Lee adds 13.8 ppg, while Ford manages 12.9. Reggie Spencer contributes 10.4 ppg and a team-high 6.3 rpg. Despite allowing opponents to score 67.4 ppg off 45.7 percent shooting, NU earns its wins on the offensive end, where it shoots 45.0 percent from the field and scores just under 70.0 ppg.
In the loss to the Tribe, the Seahawks allowed William and Mary to shoot a highly efficient 60.9 percent from the field and go 12-of-21 from 3-point range. Keith Rendleman led Wilmington, putting together a solid double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 10-of-14 from the field and recording three blocks and two steals on the defensive end. Chris Dixon added 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while Craig Ponder contributed 16 points and Tanner Milson managed 13. Rendleman leads UNCW in scoring this season, posting 16.0 ppg, shooting over 50.0 percent from the field. He also leads the squad in rebounding with 10.4 per game.
The Huskies have played better on the road than they have at home this season, earning 11 of their 17 wins away from their homecourt. As the number one team in the conference they will look to make easy work of the Seahawks.
