Bouldin leads Gonzaga in rout of SC-Upstate
Spokane, WA (Sports Network) - Matt Bouldin scored 16 points and Andrew Sorenson tallied 15 points as 14th-ranked Gonzaga tuned up for the West Coast Conference Tournament with a 90-40 rout of South Carolina-Upstate.
Josh Heytvelt scored 12, Micah Downs 11 and Austin Daye 10 for the Bulldogs (24-5), who have won 16 of their last 17 games.
"It ended up being a perfect ending at home for the seniors," said Gonzaga coach Mark Few. "They came out with the approach they wanted to, got after them on defense and everybody was unselfish. I don't think we could have scripted it any better."
Bobby Davis had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (9-21), who finished the regular season by losing five of their last seven games. Nick Schneiders totaled seven points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in defeat.
The Spartans had 26 turnovers to just four for Gonzaga.
The Bulldogs took immediate control by scoring the opening eight points, capped by a jumper from Heytvelt with less than three minutes expired. Heytvelt's layup extended the lead to 27-6 at the midway point and the Spartans didn't get into double digits until there were less than seven minutes left in the half.
By that time the hosts were holding a commanding 30-10 lead and the margin stood at 43-16 at the half. The Bulldogs had 26 points off turnovers at the half, to zero for the Spartans.
