Twins' Colabello, Angels' Hamilton share AL Player of the Week award
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Colabello of the Minnesota Twins and Josh Hamilton of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been named the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending April 6.
Colabello batted .391 and led the AL with 11 runs batted in while tying for second in doubles with four. The 30-year-old designated hitter and first baseman collected a career-high six RBI on Thursday and helped Minnesota split its first six games of the season.
Hamilton hit an AL-best .500 with two homers, five RBI and five runs scored to claim his third weekly honor. His .864 slugging percentage and .560 on-base percentage led the majors, while his 19 total bases tied for tops in the AL.
Others considered for the award included Seattle's Felix Hernandez and Justin Smoak, Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox and Torii Hunter of the Detroit Tigers.
