Jarrod SaltalamacchiaCMiami catcher Jarrod Saltalmacchia is a career 5-for-11 (.455) against Nationals starter Doug Fister. If you are looking for the 2012 version of Saltalamacchia who blasted 25 homers, he's not home. Salty is batting .225 with 11 homers and 44 RBI, but he does have a nice matchup.9/19/2014 12:20:00 PM
ColdHenderson AlvarezSPMarlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez has struggled recently, heading into tonight's start against the Mets.Alvarez has been solid throughout 2014, but that has not been the case over his past three starts (0-1 and 5.17 ERA). If owners have another option, do not be afraid to keep Alvarez on the bench.9/17/2014 10:38:00 AM
Giancarlo StantonRFMarlins manager Mike Redmond said Tuesday that the chances of Giancarlo Stanton returning this season are "not looking good" according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. With less than two weeks left in the season, doctors have advised against a return this year for Stanton. The outfielder suffered multiple facial fractures and lacerations requiring more than 20 stitches, as well as losing multiple teeth after taking a pitch in the face against Brewers starter Mike Fiers last Thursday. Miami is supposed to give an official update on Wednesday, but plan for Stanton to not be in your lineup from here on out.9/16/2014 10:29:00 PM
HotJarred CosartSPMarlins right-hander Jarred Cosart has enjoyed his move to the National League. After going 9-7 with a 4.41 ERA for the Astros, Cosart has seemed to find his groove with Miami. Not only is he 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with Marlins, Cosart has actually been even better over his past three starts (2-1, 1.74 ERA and 0.97 WHIP). He has 15 homers with 51 RBI and is batting .242.9/14/2014 9:11:00 AM
Henderson AlvarezSPMarlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez pitched seven innings, allowed one run on seven hits, struck out four and walked none in a no-decision against the Phillies on Friday.Alvarez has had a solid season, replacing Jose Fernandez on top of the Miami rotation. There is no player who can replace those numbers.9/12/2014 9:35:00 AM
Garrett Jones1BMarlins first baseman Garrett Jones is 1-for-10 lifetime with five strikeouts against Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers.Fiers is a decent pitcher, but it is not like he will be in Cy Young contention anytime soon. Jones just doesn't see the ball well against him. Don't start Jones on Thursday.9/11/2014 1:15:00 PM

Glen PerkinsSPTwins closer Glen Perkins will not pitch for the remainder of the 2014 season due to a left forearm strain and nerve irritation in his left elbow according to MLB.comOn a positive note, an MRI revealed no damage to his UCL. Oswaldo ArciaRFTwins right fielder Oswaldo Arcia had to be taken out of Monday's game with upper back tightness.Arcia was 1-for-3, including his 18th homerun of the season, before bing removed. He has struggled from an average standpoint in 2014 (.231/.304/.456), but has shown nice power. Consider Arcia day-to-day going forward.9/16/2014 9:47:00 AM

Tommy MiloneSPTwins starter Tommy Milone is unlikely to start on Monday due to a sore neck.Milone was already pushed back to start Monday when Friday's game was rained out. With only two weeks remaining in the season, it is possible Milone is done for the year. Anthony Swarsak is the best candidate to start in Milone's place on Monday.9/13/2014 3:27:00 PM
