Alex AvilaCTigers catcher Alex Avila (head) is still not in the lineup for Detroit on Wednesday. He took a foul ball off his mask Sunday, and with a history of concussion problems, Detroit is not taking any chances. Bryan Holaday will continue to handle the catching duties during Avila's absence.9/17/2014 4:48:00 PM
J.D. MartinezOFTigers outfielder J.D. Martinez went 2-for-3 with a home run to give Detroit the lead in the top of the ninth on Tuesday against the Twins.Martinez hit a three-run bomb in the ninth off Twins closer Glen Perkins as the Tigers took a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately for Detroit, Joe Nathan blew his seventh save of the season and Minnesota won, 4-3. The home run was Martinez's 23rd of the season, and he also has 75 RBI while batting .313.9/14/2014 11:48:00 PM
Rick PorcelloSPTigers right-hander Rick Porcello threw eight innings, allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked two in a no-decision against the Twins on Tuesday. The Tigers rallied in the top of the ninth to take the lead, and Porcello was in line for the victory until closer Joe Nathan blew the save. Kennys Vargas scored both the Twins runs, on a Kurt Suzuki single in the fourth and his own solo home run in the sixth. Porcello is 15-11 with a 3.19 ERA and 122 strikeouts this year.9/16/2014 11:42:00 PM
ColdJoe NathanRPTigers closer Joe Nathan blew his seventh save of the year, allowing two runs in the ninth as Detroit lost to Minnesota, 4-3.Nathan is 4-4 but has converted just 32 out of 39 save opportunities in 2014. He also has a 5.10 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. Nathan should have been out of your lineup awhile ago.9/16/2014 11:35:00 PM
Alex AvilaCTigers catcher Alex Avila is not in the starting lineup tonight. It is just a routine day off for Detroit's everyday catcher. Avila has not produced much offensively in 2014 (.223 BA, 11 HR and 47 RBI), but is critical to the Tigers' success behind the plate. He should be back tomorrow. Bryan Holaday gets the start Monday night, for ace Max Scherzer.9/15/2014 4:55:00 PM
Max ScherzerSPTigers pitcher Max Scherzer has been a much different pitcher on the road this season.Take away the fact he is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA in his last three starts. The big thing here is Scherzer has somehwhat struggled on the road in 2014. His 6-4 record and 3.61 ERA away from Detroit is not terrible, but when you compare it to his home totals (10-1, 2.66 ERA), owners definitely expect more from the Tigers' ace. In no way should you bench him, but beware that Scherzer is not as effective away from Comerica Park.9/15/2014 2:52:00 PM
J.D. MartinezOFTigers outfielder J.D. Martinez was 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI-single to help the Tigers defeat the Indians, 6-4, on SundayMartinez hit a solo home run in the fourth, which is his 22nd homer of the year. Martinez then hit his RBI-single in the sixth. The outfielder is batting .305/.350/.557 with 71 RBI in 393 at-bats.9/14/2014 6:56:00 PM

Alex AvilaCTigers catcher Alex Avila hit a two-run home run to lift the Tigers to a 5-4 victory over the Indians on Saturday. Avila took Indians relief pitcher Bryan Shaw deep in the bottom of the eighth with the Tigers trailing 4-3. Avila went 1-for-3, and the homer kept the Tigers a half game ahead of the Royals in the AL Central. The catcher is batting .222/.329/.371 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI this season.9/14/2014 9:39:00 AM
Anibal SanchezSPTigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez (pectoral) hopes to begin throwing off a mound early on Monday according to Jason Beck of MLB.com.Even with the positive news, Sanchez will not make it back before the end of the regular season. He is not fantasy relavant unless owners are playing through the playoffs or are in dynasty leagues.9/13/2014 4:45:00 PM

Those were the only runs Oakland scored in the 7-2 loss as Texas completed the three game sweep.9/18/2014 6:58:00 PM
Joe Mauer1BTwins first baseman Joe Mauer is a .167 hitter (3-for-18), with five strikeouts against Tigers' starter David Price.Mauer has had a disappointing season in 2014, and that trend could continue tonight versus one of Detroit's aces.9/17/2014 11:28:00 AM
HotKennys VargasDHTwins first baseman Kennys Vargas went 3-for-4 with two runs and a home run against the Tigers on Tuesday.Vargas scored the first run of the game and extended the Minnesota lead in the sixth with a solo home run. HotRicky NolascoSPTwins starter Ricky Nolasco pitched eight shutout innings, allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one in a no-decision against the Tigers on Tuesday.Nolasco was in line for the victory until Twins closer Glen Perkins yielded three runs in the top of the ninth. Minnesota rallied in the bottom of the inning to win, 4-3. Nolasco is 5-11 with a 5.34 ERA, but he has an ERA of 1.35 in his last three starts.9/16/2014 11:38:00 PM
Oswaldo ArciaRFTwins right fielder Oswaldo Arcia had to be taken out of Monday's game with upper back tightness.Arcia was 1-for-3, including his 18th homerun of the season, before bing removed. He has struggled from an average standpoint in 2014 (.231/.304/.456), but has shown nice power. Consider Arcia day-to-day going forward.9/16/2014 9:47:00 AM
Trevor MaySPTwins pitcher Trevor May struck out 10 and walked none in six innings against the White Sox on Sunday.May allowed three runs on five hits as well. The 24-year-old has now won his last three starts and is 3-4 on the year.9/14/2014 6:41:00 PM
Brian Dozier2BTwins second baseman Brian Dozier is 2-for-12 in his career against White Sox pitcher Hector Noesi.Dozier does have a home run against Noesi, but other than that, has struggled against the right hander. Dozier also struggled in a doubleheader on Saturday, going 0-for-7 in the two games combined.9/14/2014 11:18:00 AM
Tommy MiloneSPTwins starter Tommy Milone is unlikely to start on Monday due to a sore neck.Milone was already pushed back to start Monday when Friday's game was rained out. With only two weeks remaining in the season, it is possible Milone is done for the year. Anthony Swarsak is the best candidate to start in Milone's place on Monday.9/13/2014 3:27:00 PM
Joe Mauer1BTwins first baseman Joe Mauer is a .444 hitter (9-for-18) against White Soxc starter Jose Quintana. For the season, he is hitting just.272 with four home runs and 46 RBI, which is certainly disappointing based on his historic standards.9/12/2014 1:36:00 PM
Ricky NolascoSPTwins starter Ricky Nolasco pitched well, allowing one run on six hits in seven innings but lost, 2-0, to the Indians.Nolasco gave up a solo home run to Carlos Santana for his one run. Santana added the Indians second run in the eighth inning. Nolasco is 5-11 with a 5.64 ERA this year.9/11/2014 6:07:00 PM
