Player Notes - Tampa Bay and Baltimore
Tampa Bay
Drew SmylySPThe Tigers have sent Drew Smyly to the Tampa Bay Rays in the David Price trade.Smyly is promising, but he's been inconsistent this season. In 105 1/3 innings, he's gone 6-9 with a 3.93 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He could be better down the road, but his fantasy fortunes this season won't change much after the trade.7/31/2014 5:24:00 PM
HotAlex CobbSPRays starter Alex Cobb has recorded a 22/2 K/BB and allowed one run on eight hits over 15 innings in his last two starts.Cobb (7-6, 3.54 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) allowed one run on three hits and struck out 12 in eight innings Tuesday in a win over Milwaukee. He's won five straight decisions.7/29/2014 10:18:00 PM
HotBen Zobrist2BTampa Bay second baseman Ben Zobrist went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI Tuesday against Milwaukee.Zobrist has gone 36-for-106 (.340) with seven doubles, two triples, four home runs, 16 RBI and 20 walks in his last 28 games.7/29/2014 10:15:00 PM
Wil MyersRFRays right fielder Wil Myers (stress fracture in his right wrist) hit off a tee Friday and is progressing toward a mid-August return, barring any setbacks.Myers suffered the injury on May 30 when he collided with Desmond Jennings. The 23-year-old reigning AL Rookie of the Year has been done little this season batting .227 with five homers and 25 RBI.7/29/2014 10:48:00 AM
HotJake OdorizziSPTampa Bay starter Jake Odorizzi won his third straight start Monday against the Brewers.Odorizzi was dominant, walking none, striking out five and allowing one run on three hits in seven innings. The right-hander has been terrific in his last 15 starts, going 6-5 with a 2.83 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a 102/28 K/BB in 86 innings.7/28/2014 10:00:00 PM
Jeremy HellicksonSPRays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson, just off the disabaled list, pitched well for his first start since July 8.Hellickson has missed most of the season due to elbow surgery. He had a 5.17 ERA last year, but his career ERA is 3.69 and it's 1.00 through his first two starts this season.7/26/2014 11:32:00 PM
Matt JoyceRFRays OF/DH Matt Joyce has a career .333 batting average (8-for-24) with two home runs against Red Sox starter John Lackey.Joyce is one of four Rays starters (Evan Longoria, Yunel Escobar, Ben Zobrist are the others) batting over .333 for their career versus Lackey.7/26/2014 11:11:00 AM
HotDavid PriceSPIn what may have been his final start with the Rays, David Price struck out 10, walked none and allowed three runs over eight innings against the Red Sox.Price has won six straight starts and pitched to a 1.88 ERA and a 99/13 K/BB in his last 11. In that span, he's thrown at least seven innings in all 11 starts and averaged nearly eight innings per outing. The Rays have won eight straight and are now 50-53, so they may just decide to keep Price.7/25/2014 10:35:00 PM
Ben Zobrist2BTampa Bay second baseman Ben Zobrist bounced back from a 0-for-12 stretch with four hits in four at-bats Friday night against the Red Sox.Since June 25, Zobrist has gone 31-for-94 (.330) with six doubles, two triples, two homers, 13 RBI and 14 runs in 24 games. His numbers on the season still aren't impressive, but his versatility (2B/SS/OF) gives him extra fantasy value.7/25/2014 10:28:00 PM
Desmond JenningsCFTampa Bay center fielder Desmond Jennings has had a nice month of July, going 20-for-64 with seven doubles, two homers and 14 runs. He's still hitting just .249 because he came into the month batting .235. Jennings is on pace to finish with nearly identical numbers to the past two seasons. At age 27, he's likely not going to improve much from the player he is right now.7/25/2014 10:20:00 PM

Bud NorrisSPOrioles starter Bud Norris threw seven scoreless innings Thursday against the Angels, but he took a no decision.Norris has a career-low 3.69 ERA and 1.24 WHIP this season, but his FIP is just 4.35 and he has a 6.57 K/9. He's an AL-only arm at best.7/31/2014 10:35:00 PM
Ubaldo JimenezSPOrioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) will make one more rehab start either Sunday or Monday before returning to the rotation.Jimenez is too inconsistent to trust in fantasy leagues. He's 8-8 with a 4.52 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.7/31/2014 8:26:00 PM
Andrew MillerRPThe Red Sox have traded left-hander Andrew Miller to the Orioles for pitching prospect Eduardo Rodriguez.Rodriguez has had a down year for Double-A Bowie, going 3-7 with a 4.79 ERA and a 69/29 K/BB in 82 2/3 innings. Miller, the 2006 sixth-overall pick who was once traded to the Marlins for Miguel Cabrera, has turned into a dominant lefty reliever after failing as a starter. In 42 1/3 innings this season, he has a 2.34 ERA, a 0.90 WHIP and 69 Ks. With Miller, Brian Matusz and Zach Britton, the Orioles are going to be extremely tough on left-handed batters in the latter innings.7/31/2013 6:05:00 PM
Chris Davis1BBaltimore first baseman Chris Davis (flu) is not in the lineup Thursday.Davis (.199, 17 HR, 51 RBI) will miss his third straight game due to an illness.7/31/2014 5:53:00 PM

The 26-year-old left-hander was a failed starter, but he's found success as a reliever this year.7/30/2014 9:56:00 PM
HotAdam JonesCFOrioles center fielder Adam Jones has hit five home runs in his last 11 games/Jones has batted .255 in July, but he's hit six home runs and driven in 18. Kevin GausmanSPOrioles starter Kevin Gausman held the Angels to three runs on three hits in seven innings Wednesday night.Gausman was perfect through 4 2/3 innings before walking three straight batters and giving up a two-run single and an RBI double, but he struck out Mike Trout and threw two more scoreless frames. The former first-rounder has been solid in his first extended chance at a starting job. He's gone 5-2 with a 3.12 ERA since the start of June.7/30/2014 9:48:00 PM
Chris Davis1BBaltimore first baseman Chris Davis (flu) is not in the lineup Wednesday, according to Roch Kubatko of is away from the team due to illness and he'll miss his second straight game on Wednesday.7/30/2014 5:04:00 PM

Ubaldo JimenezSPOrioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) is scheduled to start a rehab assignment Tuesday and should be a couple of starts away from his return to the roster.Jimenez wasn't pitching very well before the injury (3-8, 4.52 ERA, 1.535 WHIP), so fantasy owners probably aren't waiting for his return.7/29/2014 10:25:00 AM
